The Future of Project Management. AI.

So according to many online project management news and media outlets, Artificial Intelligence will come in and transform the way we manage projects. In fact, some sources claim that it is already changing certain aspects of project management. Tasks usually done by project manager are now being done by an AI engine that analyzes data, creates correlations and performs automated tasks automatically based on these correlations. However, does it mean that each company will have model their own AI robot? And how will the AI robot communicate its complex decision-making strategies to us humans?

According to an article posted on Forbes, AI will aid project managers of the future in the form of bots or digital assistants. These bots or assistants will “talk” or e-mail a project manager when a deliverable is almost due. A milestone within a given project has been reached. Or, sends an e-mail when a project has been become obsolete within the current market, just to name a few examples I personally believe in. However, I personally cannot imagine that, that would be the only ways an AI engine would communicate with project managers. I feel like AI engines would also need to provide useful conclusions that would be visualized in the form of a dashboard.
I feel like a lot of people think of an AI engine as some ominous talking robot entity like Jarvis, talking to humans and judging them on why they are destroying the world by polluting so much. In reality, this would be feasible, but absurd.

I think that an effective AI engine would also visualize its conclusions, based on data, in the form of a dashboard with gauges on points that are usually very time-consuming to create or simply too much work that needs to be done in a fraction of second, just to relevant data. I think that AI engines would have to be able to understand all aspects described in corporate documents, e-mails, meeting notes, products and other statistical data to really give a relevant advise on how to proceed next within a project, program or portfolio.

I believe the challenges surrounding the optimization of the learning aspects of an AI engine will still continue to be a challenge now and in the future, as there are many variables to consider. Also, the way the digested data is presented or communicated would also need to be thoroughly investigate to determine what to the most effective method would be to inform projects managers how, when and where to go next.
