A quick reflection on Week 3’s lecture on the Benefits Realization Framework. I’ve come to realize that, applying the BRM Framework, in whole, in the real world would be too cumbersome. PMI presents its esteemed framework as being a complete project management process. However, in the real world it would take a lot of logistics to fully apply.
But, the BRM Framework was never intended to be applied as a whole. It was meant to provide guidance to, what to consider when planning to manage projects. In fact, PMI encourages organizations wanting to apply the framework to ‘tailor’ the management of projects, programs and portfolios. Meaning that those responsible for shifting their companies towards the BRM framework should pick the elements from the PMI’s PMBOK guide that are relevant for the business that wants to apply it.
The lecturers wants us students to absorb PMI’s project management paradigm as a theoretical basis on project management that we can build upon and focus more on the formation of our opinions on how we think to improve and bring upon the next big digital transformations within our companies and societies.
